    Default New from Western NY

I helped on a few cutouts this summer, starting with one in my own house. I have been studying via youtube, and working with two friends of mine. I think I am hooked on beekeeping now. I just bought a pile of used boxes and all equipment from craigslist. With that came enough new boxes to start 3 or 4 hives. Included are mant frames with old wax. I plan to melt and filter what I can, and reuse the frames. I have a few NUC bait boxes that I will set out early next spring, and hope to capture my first colony.

I also have another hobby, making biodiesel fuel from used cooking oil. Then I make liquid glycerin soap from the glycerin byproduct. www.fullcyclesoap.com

Welcome. I'm in the Catskills...read up on the various diseases of honeybees i.e. European Foulbrood and American Foulbrood...I personally wouldn't buy used boxes and frames because of AFB, but some might disagree with me. Good luck! Lots of info here.

    Welcome Bob.
    I'm in Elmira.

If you live near Cattaragus, there's a guy there named Kale Luce who raises excellent queens.

Welcome. I advise melting all the comb you got, burn the frames, and scorch the supers to lessen the possibility of AFB. You don't really know the lineage, the disease history of the hives these used to be.

I am from Brasher Falls,NY, where is Western? I've been all over NY and don't recall a town or village called Western. Half kidding. Welcome.
