Default put a bar into brood area

I have been nervous about my population. It seems really good and last time in the spring this triggered a swarm. i have caught a swarm in the fall a few years back. I put in a bar without any drawn comb on it just to decongest the brood area. does this seem like a bad idea to anybody this time of the year?

I would add another bar if the population seems too thin. I just added one to my brood area last week because it's a small colony (just started the end of July). Funny thing was, they were not interested in the fully drawn comb that they used to have honey in. But the empty bar, they immediately started drawing comb and now have eggs in there before it was fully drawn. If your colony is strong enough for the winter, I wouldn't add the comb.
