    Default combining hives

I have tried to read all I can on this subject and I understand the newspaper thing , but I have not seen this asked before. Forgive me if it has already been answered. I need to do a combine with a queenright that is one deep and two medium. Do I have to set the other hive down on the deep, since most of the brood is there, or just set it on top of the mediums? Thanks so much for your help.

I would set it on top at first and then in a week or so rearrange if need be.
If those mediums are full of capped honey I probably wouldn't bother with the newspaper.

I would place the queenless hive above the queen right hive....on top of all of the boxes with newspaper between.

On top of that entire colony, newspaper with tiny starter slits, wait a few weeks and rearrange then a few more weeks and rearrange again removing unecessary empty frames. No matter what, I always end up with 4 boxes. But who knows if this is 'the right' way.
