    Default Population Decline

    Hi guys,

I extracted 80lbs from 2 hives today and noticed something, the population in both hives had dropped drastically. Brood was present but the population decline was about 75%. Could this bee the bees preparing for winter? or what else could it be?

I'm in the Pacific Northwest, so any beekeepers from there let me know how their hives are late August?

    Thanks,
    Vancity

I only have one hive that I received back in the end of June. It grew explosively for a while. It still grew since my last inspection but the growth is definitely not explosive.

Not sure what the weather difference is between here and where you are.

Mine just swarmed & I'm south of you in northern California @ 2000 feet. Believe me 2 to 3 pounds of bees flying away will lower your numbers quick!

Just a idea (I looked for queen cell & found them in mine).
