    Default Starting A Buckfast Hive

I am planning on starting a bee hive this spring as soon as I can I have search the kinds of honey bees and the buckfast has the characteristics I am look for
•hardiness in a variety of climates
•excellent housekeeper (which some scientists think might be a factor in disease resistance)
    •low swarming
    •excellent foragers
    •gentleness
    •ease of handling
    •superior resistance to disease
•overwinters well by reducing brood to conserve stores
but I have read on here that the one from texas are not so gentle and can be hot but how about the danish buckfast from dansk farms out of florida do anyone know about them thanks allan

I've had two orders from Dansk. Would use them again.

In my view, the points you list are important, but no more important than resistance/tolerance to varroa mites. Buy your first queen from an apiary that has not treated for mites for several years, that way you can learn about bees instead of how to treat mites.

Thumbs Up Re: Starting A Buckfast Hive

The best hives I have are headed by BeeWeaver and RWeaver (Buckfast) queens. Locate the hives carefully and wear personal protective equipment and you won't need to worry about defensiveness.
