    Default Hello from Queensland, Australia.

Hi Everyone. Been keeping bees for 30 plus years and have a ute load of bees at the moment.

Australia is Varroa free but we have the Small Hive Beetle and most of the other honeybee diseases that have been brought into this country.

I do not put any pesticides or antibiotics into my hives and have paid the price with losses. Sometimes I have been tempted to quit beekeeping but that Bee Venom gets in your blood and it is there for life.

Also have a meliponary where I keep Stingless Bees. Native bee honey sells for $70 kg but harvest amounts are small.

I live on the coast about an hours north of Brisbane which is our capital city.

Looking forward to participating in your forum.

    Hi Kidbeeyoz
Do your bees have any problem with neonics - Neonicotinoids? Do you feel comfortable having bees squeezed between fields of mono-crops treated with systemic pesticides aka Neonicotinoids?

Hello Cerezha and everyone. Thanks for your welcomes.

I live in a coast belt and my beekeeping is confined to native forests and does not extend into farm lands. However, I have read with interest the goings on with neonicotinoids in the EU.

I belong to a beekeepers organisation which has one beekeeper who migrates to Canola. I recall he said how his bees went through the season in poor condition but he seemed to blame Macadamia which produces a low protein pollen which breeds "gutless bees".

    Hi Kidbeeyoz,

I'm not to far from you at Crystal Waters near Conondale.
Getting a bit cool out here but the bees are doing well.
