Default What do foragers do when it rains?

The next 5 days have 80% chance of rain...so I began to wonder what do the foragers do in the hive when the weather is bad? Do they take on other duties and just hang out in the Foragers Breakroom?

I'm in SW Ohio and its been raining steady non stop all day and off and on for the last week, next several days forecast is the same. I had a look at the outside of the hives just now out of curiosity. Perhaps rain not as good as bright sunny day but foragers are coming and going in large numbers and don't seem affected. One definite difference is that not many hanging around on the entrance or outside of the hive for long.

North eastern Ohio here, same conditions here, RAIN.
I thought maybe the bees had bought rain suits, they are still coming and going.

I have found them resting on leaves in trees, during the rain, so I guess they are smart enough to take shelter if they are away from the hive. Others were in trees near the hive, maybe to keep from overcrowding/overheating the hive?

They take up gambling. The contest is to see who first gets to sting the next human to open the hive. Don't believe me? Open a hive on a rainy day, the winner will be there to greet you. When the sun comes out, they forget all about the gambling, and life is good again.

Roland...I wonder what the prize would be...since they don't have much time after the sting to enjoy the fruits of their victory!

The prize is being first. On a rainy day, they ALL want to sting you. The winners get first dibs.

Interesting. Thanks for the inputs everyone. After 5 straight days and 12 inches, the rain has taken a break. Still overcast, but one of my hives was very busy bringing in pollen this morning. I would have thought the pollen would have been washed out by all the rain. But they have some source, never seen them so busy hauling pollen.

We have had 10 days + of rain and more coming. Will the pollen get so wet that foragers cannot get it? Do I need to put in sugar syrup until the storms pass?
    Man it's wet!

The bees will sort it out. That is why they store food...
