    Default only laying in upper deep

    hi I am a the first year beekeeper in northern ca on one of my new hives i waited until the first deep was 80% drawn out and then added my second deep they moved right up and began drawing and laying now the bottom is totally empty of brood and eggs I have given them about a month to figure it out and nothing has changed what do I do?

    Feed them, or feed them and re-queen, you may have a dud.

    She should move back down once the second deep fills up. You could just reverse them and see what happens.

    I vote reverse. If the brood is in the upper at the end of this month, they will likely prepare that box for wintering. The time for pushing them down with incoming nectar is past. If reversed, they can put honey in the upper for winter stores.
