Default When might beetles and mites show up?

Two new packages installed in two new hives in early May. Settled in the middle of 20 acres of pasture with no other bee keepers that I know of for at least 8 miles. No signs of shb or mites so far that i can see. If its just a matter of time before these pests show up, how long before I can expect trouble?

My SHB showed up within 1-2 weeks of installation. Mite check this week, but I assume that they are there.

The shb are easier to see than the mites, you may not have shb yet, but I'm pretty sure you have mites, you will have to check a sticky board to be sure, or pull out some drone brood and look at it. John

You have mites. Put a sticky board on or do a sugar shake to check. If the mite load is high, treat as needed. I can't speak for SHB.

Here is some reading for you.

Mites and beetles came with the package. Our winters are too cool for the beetles to overwinter, so they are not too much of a problem for us. My friends ordered some packages this year, both had beetles in them.

Mites are there, but the key question is when do they reach a threashold that is a problem. Some mites is normal, and not worth treating. the poiant they can do damage to the hive based on their breeding cycle is probably around the first of AUG for you. Research the ways to do mite checks. (randy olivers site is about the best) As for beetles. may not be a problem for you they don't breed well in sand but they can show up any time.
