Default New Queen, what's this on her?????

New beek, new Top Bar Hive this year.

Somehow we lost our Queen after the bees made 6 bars of comb and the Queen laid a healthy brood pattern, it was all looking great until this point. The bees made a new Queen which we found last week, but per the photo we took today, she had a length of something hanging from the end of her abdomen. The bees were trying to remove it, which they did in the end while we watched.

Does this mean she's mated? Any idea what the string looking thing was hanging from her?

Well she's mated, yes. But may make further mating flights until she has the needed amount of semen.
