    Default queens 2 years old.

    Does any one keep there queens more then 2 seasons and if so how olds your oldest queen?

    I was out of it for a few years and am just restarting, but back then I used a queen 2-3 years to decide if she was worth breeding from. If I thought she was especially good, I'd give her to my SIL who bred her own queens, and she'd give me back a dozen or so daughters and keep the rest for her own operation. She'd typically breed from that queen for 2 seasons. She ran about 200 hives, whereas I only kept about a dozen.

    Don't know if this is typical, but it worked for us.
