Default Cutting Hole for Honey Gate

What is the best way to cut/drill the hole in a 5 gallon plastic pail, to install a honey gate? Hole saw? Mann Lake has the honey gates on sale this week, so I thought I might order a few.

I used a hole saw that is a little too small (1 3/4") and then used a Dremel tool with small sanding drum to very carefully enlarge it a little until it fits. Warm the plastic bucket near the hole with a hair dryer, then tighten the gate in. I've had no problem using the Dadant plastic gates.

Don't have a Dremel? Just use some sandpaper after drilling with the hole saw. Smooth all the rough edges. You may need to "screw" the gate into the bucket.

1 7/8" hole saw, or 2" is what I use.

Don't go too close to the bottom of the bucket. The gate will not sit flat. I ruined a bucket that way. Stay 1 inch up at least.
