I grew up with honey bees- my dad was an avid keeper in NH. Now, I've started a new hive of my own in AZ and am trying not to hover and stress about them!!!
I got my queen and box of Italians on May, 21st. Three days later I checked to see that the queen was free of the Benton cage (she was). They seem to be acclimating quite well. I am using an entrance feeder- they have been utilizing it quite well, and have noticed quite a bit of foraging activity. In a 2 min. period I counted 31 foragers entering the hive. Upon inspection, (I should mention that I have not had to smoke them, or wear veil or gloves- they are suspiciously gentle and tolerant) I have seen a lot of comb built and capped simple syrup cells and pollen but no sign of brood. I also have not seen the queen, initially I wasn't worried about this, the queen in my observation hive can be so hard to find sometimes! Now, I'm starting to worry
When should I begin to see brood cells? I feel like this is the only way to confirm her health and safety. Are there other signs that I should look for?
