    Default Brood problem?

    Hello,

Today I was examining my hive (I was worried that it was honey bound) and I noticed that there was one frame of brood that looked strange. The frame was on the outside, instead of being toward the the middle of the hive. The comb wasn't very well drawn out, and the larvae had some grey/black spots on it The larvae looked dried out instead of glistening like usual. There isn't any "goop", and I didn't see any mites. I will try to get a pic tomorrow since I don't want to disturb the girls again today. I appreciate any input you guys can give me, since I have only had bees for a few weeks.

If it is happening before the brood is capped it could be sac brood or European Foul brood. You can treat EFB with antibiotics. Or you can requeen them and start feeding them. A picture would help DX.

If the adult bee population is not sufficient to cover the brood, the brood on the outside of the cluster will chill and die. The color is usually pale gray or black. How strong is the colony and how cold has it been at night?

I checked my hive today so I could show you a pic, and all of the brood I was worried about is now capped, so I will just have to see what happens
