    Default Newbies in Wisconsin

    Hi everyone,
My husband, our kids (ages 4 and 7), and I live in west central Wisconsin. Not far from the Chippewa River. After several months of reading and watching videos we decided to buy a hive. We just installed a package of Buckfast/Italian bees last Friday. In our inexperienced eyes everything seems to be going well. Queen has been released. They are bringing in lots of pollen. We are due for a cold snap so I modified a chick waterer and placed it on the inner cover rather than having an entrance feeder. I'm worried our hives worst enemy will be our inexperience.

I'm very happy to have found this forum and plan on doing lots of reading.

Welcome. Bringing in pollen is a good sign. Spring will show up eventually. There are a fair number of Wisconsin beekeepers here.

Welcome! I'm hoping my ordered bees will arrive in the next week or so.

Alright........ another Badger Beekeeper. It seems like you are thinking ahead and on the right track to successful beekeeping. I smiled when I saw the little legs drawn on the hive body, I assume that wonderful artwork is that of your little kiddies! I suggest letting them name their own Queen, if you get more hives. My wife, daughters, myself and even our bunny all have our own, "hive" and named our own Queen. I though.......am the only one who does the hands on beekeeping. The kids will love it probably as much as you do, mine get excited and love to hear all about beekeeping. juzzer

Yep, my kids did the artwork. They had a blast. They really like having bees.
