The open one pointing downwards is a queen cell cup. Nearly all hives have them if they ever decide to raise a queen they may use it then.
44 years, been commercial, outfits up to 4000 hives, now 120 hives and 200 nucs as a hobby, selling bees. T (mostly).
I see a queen cup,, but Dang,, never seen a queen cell that is horizontal like that! or is the pic affecting my vision,, is that long cell horizontal or vertical?
Pretty sure the horizontal one is a drone. He's got plastic foundation, forcing the bees to build a much lower amount of drone comb than they would like, so anywhere they can get a few drone cells squeezed in, such as between top & bottom frames, they will, as in this case.
Queen cup on left, drone on right.
Try living life with the attitude it's not about what you want to do but what you should do!
