Its been two and half weeks since I put my package of bees into my boxes. I opened and pulled out a few of the middle frames and took a look. I was hoping to actually find the queen and give her a good look over, but never found her. But I did find one side of a frame pretty well filled out with brood cells. Very few skipped cells and lots of tightly packed filled spots. Lots of worker cells and some drone cells spotted here and there. And with some uncapped honey in the upper corners. I've been watching the front of the hive over the past couple days and have been seing many bees returning with a fair amount pollen. The frames showed that they infact have been bringing back a lot of it. The flower season hasnt really yet begun here in the Denver, CO area. There are a few early season flowers out, but these bees are finding them and bring it back. Then I found one of the outer frames with a lot of uncapped, shiney liquid that I assume is future honey for the bees. I was super stoked to see all the progress the bees have been making. Lots of comb is being built on many of the frames. The outer frames are basically bare right now, but there are bees working on them. The inner frames were so thick with bees that it made it hard to actually see what was what. I didnt want to knock the queen off the frame she was on so I left it all alone and put the hive back together as I found it.
All in all, Im pretty happy with the progress so far.
One question. I have a colony of ants near by and they have found some of the spilled sugar syrup on some of the rocks near by and have now found where it comes from. Should I be concerned? I haven't seen them inside the upper box that is being used as the feed area right now. But they are on the bottom slide out board of my screened bottom board.
