Default how long to wait on checking after a cutout

I just did my first cutout. It was fun but somewhat difficult. I was able to fill up a deep with brood, pollen and honey, by rubber banding it in. It is put in kind of spotty so there are bare areas in the frames due to the combs dimensions. I was wondering how long I should wait to look at the work they are doing so that I my know when to add another box. I don't want them to get crowded but I want them to fill out the comb as best as they will. Dandelions are doing well right now so they do have some food and I am giving them sugar water.
