Default Making some nuc boxes today

Does everyone just make nuc boxes (5frame) half the width of ten frame brood boxes?

Of course you can do that, however, the industry standard for a five frame nuc is 9 inches (OD), whereas, half of a 10 frame deep would be 8 1/8. Even in a 9 inch nuc, the frames are tight, especially if the colony is built out nicely before transfer.

    But, it will work.

Agree, I like 9.25 or so. Measure 5 frames ear to ear, then add the same space on each side that you have in a 10 frame.

You can also just go to the homepage of beesource.com and there is a section for plans of different bee things. I prefer the DCoates 5 frame nucs made from plywood but opinions vary.
