    Default Hello from Oregon

    Howdy all,

Just getting started and was referred here by a nice guy who responded to a craigslist ad I placed looking for bees. I had signed up here last fall, but did not do much due to moving.

I moved to Oregon from Alaska last fall and have spent the winter reading and watching stuff about bees and more bees. Got a free hive that my brother in law was not using since he moved and some basic gear (hood, tool, smoker).

Got the hive set up, but since the move I have been short on cash so buying a nuc is not an option right now. So swarm capture it is! Got some advice and am on a list for an 'easy' swarm removal so with any luck I will be an official beekeeper sooner than I think.

Welcome aboard! Wonderfull hobby and you meet some great people getting involved in doing bee stuff with. Bait your hive with some lemon grass oil from the health food store. 3-4 bucks. You can cut a straw about 1" long then melt one end together. Stuff a cotton ball down it with a tooth pick then drop in a few drops of LGO. Works everytime. Put's a new meaning to freebies.
    enjoy!

Did you ever get your swarm to start your hive?
