Default high pitch noise coming from hive

Hi all: Some background information.....three weeks ago I split my one hive...took the queen and moved some frames of brood/honey and started a new one. The original hive swarmed twice last weekend (Saturday and Monday). The original hive should have a queen by now but maybe not mated yet? The two swarms seems to be doing ok...one was large the other smaller. The split (with the queen and frames) is doing great. The original hive though seems weak since it has swarmed 2x. It also has a high pitched sound when I put my ear to the hive unlike the others...very distinct. Any idea what that would be?

Any other opinions? Could it be a virgin queen? Or queenless?

Could be a piping virgin. You can hear audio of it on youtube to compare to what you're hearing.

I think I'd give her a little time to get mated. If she turns out not to be there, do a newspaper combine with your original split. Also, make sure the space they have is appropriate for the number of bees in the hive now.
