Finally got a chance to open the hives yesterday. Of the 20 hives I went into winter with all are still alive. I am quite amazed. Half of them were booming already. Only two had small clusters and one of those was from a late Sept. swarm call I got. If we don't get another extended cold snap I predict they will all make it.
A few were getting low on stores while many still had the medium mostly full of honey above their heads. I put heaps of pollen patties (Global 15% pollen) on each hive and buttoned them back up. Since I had expected some deadouts I now have a different problem. I need to get busy building boxes and frames!! Just ordered a compound mitre saw from Amazon.com and looking at table saws. A good problem to have!
