    Default Supplemental water source

I am a newbie keeper....my bees have yet to arrive but the hives are located about 200 yards from a lake. the location is a relatively rural area and as such is not located next to a house or out building where I have a ready source of running water.

I had a beekeeper suggest that I provide supplemental water because they would find it hard to drink from the lake unless it was very still or had lily pads in it.

is there any veracity to this statement?

Don't worry. Your bees will find a way to drink from this lake.
Here is something you can do if you are really concern about them.
Pour some sands in a hole so the lake water can seep in. Then watch
for your bees to drink from this sand. Even better if you can put some
small pebbles to cover the top so the bees will not drown from the water.
