My name is Wes and I'm a beekeeper in Junction City, Georgia. By day I am a Radiologic Technology student in Columbus. When I'm not doing that, I regularly get stung by bees. I have 5 hives now and have been keeping bees for 10 months. A friend and I got into this last year with the intention of starting a business (honey, bees, etc.). To make a long story short, he helped until he found a girlfriend, now I'm in it without him. I started late in the spring last year and made some terrible decisions and ended up with hives not as strong as they should have been going into winter. Thankfully, all but two made it. I have been reading and talking to more experienced beekeepers to get information. A few lessons have been learned the hard way. I have read a lot on this forum and finally decided to join it.
I intend to get more hives soon. I also am making plans to rear my own queens (I have reared two so far). My goal is to go all organic and I have been taking steps in that direction. I make my own equipment so that cuts down on cost significantly.
I'm looking forward to tapping into the wealth of information available here.
