Hello. I keep around 5 hives. What is the most economical program/method for re-queening these hives on a yearly to bi-yearly basis? Should I even be concerned with regular requeening? (i.e. buying queens every year, start queen rearing, etc)
We have queens 3-5 yrs.old and doing great. If they build up in the Spring to 15 -18 frames they are doing great. The economical way is,kill the queen and they rear a new one.
You should read Fifty Years Among The Bees by C.C. Miller. There is a lot of good info on the subject.
