Bear fence help

Living in N. E. PA I have bears to worry about and I'd hate to get new hives and bees all set-up and have a bear rip it all apart . I've been thinking solar fencer , barbed wire and t-posts , kind of expensive but not sure what choice I have . Do any of the AG agency's help financially with something like this .

Fences for bears.--In areas of this Commonwealth where bears are present on lands open to public hunting and are, in a material way, damaging or destroying beehives where ten or more hives are placed at one location or imminent danger exists of such damage or destruction, the owner of such beehives may make application to the director for assistance in the erection of a deterrent fence.

Rader thanks for the link and info 10 hive min. leaves me out but I will look into it . Funding I think is at an all time low right now but its worth a shot .I'll post back with any more info .

If numbers are the problem one can always add empty single deeps with divider board for splits and they should count as required number of hives if they are ready to go. Nothing fancy, functional. DOW of Colorado provides for free the Solar charger and plans for any bee yard located in known bear habitat. Make the calls to your Wildlife and Game office.

Your government is financially failing and people are still looking for handouts from government agencies? I don't get it.

In my state hunting and fishing licenses goes toward funding the DOW. I don't consider it a handout but proper management of our state's wildlife and bees are part of the equation too.

I was told to use barbed wire for bears as its hard for regular fence to get past all there fur , but I was thinking about a simple smooth wire fence and the bacon trick .
