I originally started in beekeeping with a few Langstroth hives back some years ago. Unfortunately career and family left no time for the pleasures of spending time with the ladies of the hive and I had to give them up.Now that I'm old and retired I'm getting energized about bees again and have a top bar hive on order. I would prefer to start with two or more colonies but sequestration is dictating that I make cuts in my discretionary spending!!
I'm looking forward to getting to know the members of this forum.

It is possible to make an inexpensive Top Bar hive with a few tools. Here's one example:

And if you set out an empty box with some top bars in place, you just might have a swarm move in for free. Two hives are always better than one.

May God Bless you and yours. I made 8 of 9 top bar hives they are very easy to make and you can too. If I get enough hives built I'm thinking of taking and permanant furlow.
