Made some Migratory Tops with a built in top entrance.

Same here, the only thing I don't see are rails to keep it centered. Otherwise I will implement this design too, no need to prop up.

Note from the photos that the top is the same dimensions as the box below it. That way its very clear when the lid is centered. If you add rails along the sides you may have difficulty releasing the lid if the bees propolize it to the box underneath.

I use plywood for my migratory covers also. One thing we found out the hard way was that you need to paint the edges. If you don't, the plywood delaminates quickly. I like the design.

I'm thinking when it's windy and in use on a 4’ horizontal Lang but I will be using your entry design on the ends. Nice job. Tightbond III on exposed ends with oil-based Kilz makes for a nice water resistant seal.

Should be heavy enough you won't need bricks to hold them down.

Thanks everyone! This is my first season with this type of lid and we will see how it goes! I do paint the heck out of them as well, a couple coats on the surfaces and three on the exposed edges, if they last 3 seasons I will be happy!!

As for the cleats, I am not going to use them because the wood is heavy enough, and I also put bricks on for reassurance! But if you wanted to put front cleats on I imagine you could, just cut the cleats long enough to be stapled on from the side to the entrance on both sides.

I do think I will go to 3/8" plywood for the tops though, the stuff I used was over kill!!LOL

Naw, just sideliner status until I retire! Mostly want to get into breeding queens, selling nucs and pollination. Honey will go to friends and family, and mead makers!
