Frame wax question

Hello everyone.

My wife and I just finished assembling our first 40 frames using bees wax sheets, but I have a question. We still have a few months until the bees get here so is it ok to store the frames in the basement that hovers around 50 degrees? Will the colder temps make the wax brittle? Many thanks!

If 50 degrees was a problem for foundation, it wouldn't work very well outside in a hive in the winter! The basement will be fine.

yep mine are stored just like yours at about the same temp range too as of now. A little trick i like to use before putting the boxes on the hive is get a hand held spray bottle and put in some 1:1 sugar water and then spray the foundation down on both sides. This helps get the bees to start drawing the comb on the new stuff.

It will be more brittle while it's 50 F, and less brittle again when it warms up...

I was wondering if it was worth trying that. We get our two packages of bees at the end of April and can't wait! I will spray the frames down and see how they like it.
