Default Newbee in the Texas HEAT

My name is Keith. This will bee my first year to have bees and I have my Top-Bar hive built. All the good information except for what having a healthy colony has been gleamed from the internet. I am taking three classes after missing the first two of classes all about the expensive Langstroth hives. I would love to bee going in that direction IF I had a bundle of money to start and wanted that much honey. I want to do my part to save the bees by keeping a colony in it's most natural state. I also want to exchange ideas I have come up with while building my hive and hope many of you can give me some much needed answers.
