Default Swarm preps happening in the Bay Area, CA!

My buddy that keeps bees in Livermore said he found capped queen cells in his hives last weekend!

Looks like its "freebee" time in the Bay Area!! Next week the weather is suppose to get up around and into the 70's, and I havnt even placed my swarm traps yet!! Time to post the swarm catcher ad on craigslist as well!!

Did you see the post on Florida? Maybe on our side these bees are popping too.
Better hurry up to set them out. I'm still not sure though if this weather is a reflection
of reality or not. Maybe Mother nature is playing with us this year. See the snow storms
in the east coast now. Right now plum and pear and apricot are blooming. Maybe I'll put a swarm trap up or 2. Better yet do some splits now since so many eggs inside now. But I don't see drones in my hive yet. Do I
need a frame of drone cells for that too? Where are the drones at if I would to raise a queen bee now?

The drones are around and if not from someone elses hives, they are from feral hives! Im quite sure you have drone congregation areas within a few miles of you, so you should be good to try and start raising some queens now!

Mark my words, I bet next week will see swarms starting around here!!

not yet in smarm mode for me here in Ventura, however I wouldn't be surprised if i start seeing some queen cups in the next 2 to 4 weeks, currently they just started to rear Drones, their barely getting capped at the moment(1st round of Drone brood), I have several hives(3) that have 18 frame brood, which i rotated with some empty comb from my other hives, and gave those some capped/open brood to aleviate brood congestion in my populous hives, no doubt those will swarm sooner than the rest.

Feral hives especially in the Southern california will always have a very limited number of drones of desirable or undesirable traits when other managed hives may not have any drones at all. but not enough drones at the time to satify the queen's need for her productivity.

I predict there will be fewer swarms this year in the south portion of the state due to lack of rainfall...poor nectar/pollen sources to promote brood congestion/swarming, but we'll see what happens.

Over here I only see 2 ads asking for swarm or bee removal. Should I try to put an ads also on CL?
I talked to a fruits farmer today who is very interested to put bees at their farm. Seems everyone
has bees around there with sunflowers and such except this particular farmer. They are willing to pay
me to put bees there too but they not know how to manage them. What is a farmer to do if not know
anything about the bees and still want to keep them? Any idea of how I should make this works for the
both of us? Seems like they want the bees but not know how to manage them. My swarm catch will
be in handy if I get some this year.

18 frames of brood & their not thinking about swarming yet. Those will be some huge hives in 21 days.

No, a skinny size lady's leg. Perhaps?

Is the leg size comparable to the size of the "leg lamp" in a Christmas story? Hope I catch some swarms that are the size of a ladies leg, and hopefully I don't just sit there staring at it drooling while the homeowner is freaking out!
