Some areas also offer crop and overwintering insurance.

Not to get off topic more, but I know apple growers that have bought FSA insurance and CANT cash in on it when they get froze out during the bloom. Sounds to me like another ill government program that is supposed to help us out.

Ha ha, NAP. You must have a loss of 50% of your crop, and then FSA will pay you 55% of your lost income, plus you have the cost of the insurance. Not to mention that the County Commity has to vote if there was a significant enough weather event to justify the losses.

My Farmer's Insurance agent said that my hives were covered by my homeowner's insurance as long as I don't make over $10,000 per year (or something like that) off of the hoby. Very nice to know.

Homeowners policies generally don't cover any business on the property. In most cases, your homeowners policy should cover your hobby bees....but if anything is sold, it is a business. I would ask my homeowners agent about my homeowners policy.

We have a winter loss insurance but need to lose 30% before it starts to pay for colonies that didn't make the winter.
