Default Do you paint cedar hive stands?

I bought a bunch of cedar hive stands from Mann Lake and wanted to know if you paint yours or leave them alone? If the cedar can hold up to the elements, I will just leave them alone.

You don't need to finish cedar. It will naturally gray over time. I'm not sure what you plan on placing the stands on but I'm not a fan of having wood contact the soil. It will shorten the stands life somewhat, more so in a clay soil. Mann Lake doesn't say what type of cedar was used. Some are better than others.

With cedar its really up to you. If you plan on placing them directly on the ground, some sort of finish will help. I have a couple hive stands from mann lake. I have solid stained them. It appears they are made out of western red cedar.

Stain your cedar if you wish do not paint. The cedar without stain will probably outlast the boxes on it.

Thanks guys! They will not be directly on the ground but will be up on treated wood hive stands.
