Re: Single deep swarm management confusion
like most things beekeeping there's more than one opinion out there on swarming.....
i found walt wright's manuscript on 'nectar management' very helpful to my understanding of what is going on in the hive as the colony transitions out of winter into spring. the observations and management recommendations apply to using a single deep, and are especially applicable in areas that have an early flow, then a main flow, followed by a summer dearth.
some of the information may not apply to your location tp, but your understanding of swarming and what to be looking for as well as what you can do to prevent it will be advanced by reading walt's work.
as i've said before, it's without a doubt the best $10 i've spent on beekeeping so far. you can order it by sending a pm to 'wcubed'.
