Couldn't you just do combines into weak hives with the late season swarms?

Yes, you could and I do combine weak hives in the fall. But, I'm one of the TF NUTS who prefers to leave plenty of honey stores with each hive and try not to feed. Week light hives are a resource drain and something I don't want during a drought and long dearth.

I have lot of bee trees I watch and our local feral population is really taking a beating this winter, don't reckon there is going to be many swarms this year.
