Need suggestions when visiting San Antonio...

Going to be heading to San Antonio in February for my daughters Air Force basic training graduation. Probably do a little site seeing while we are there. I've heard the River Walk and the Alamo are must sees; are there any other note worthy sites to visit, or restaurant recommendations? Any suggestions would be much appreciated, we would like to make the most of our time there.

Right close to the Alamo is a restaurant at the top of the Tower of the Americas. There are five Spanish Missions in San Antonio. Go to Mi Tierra (not sure how to spell it), near downtown, and have puffy tacos...there is a Mexican market right close to the resturant. The river walk is the main draw, dress to be outside and stay in a hotel on the river if you can afford it. HTH

We were there when our Son graduated in Fall of 2010. We didn't make it to the Riverwalk because he prefered to catch up on his eating and sleeping.

if i get to san antonio i would like to watch john hagge preach at cornerstone church... if my child was in military there i would for sure go and pray for their safe return

I stayed at the Hilton Palacio Del Rio many years ago, right on the river walk, it was a really nice place and would do it again. The river walk has so many great places to eat too, you'll love it. John

My Daughter graduated from Basic there in 1999 - The Lackland experiance is great and there are some neat things to see there and of course your daugther will be the tour guide so all the better. Take an extra large shirt so the buttons don't pop when you feel the pride of seeing who your little girl has become and all the great life long friends she's made at basic. We hit the riverwalk which was remarkable, the alamo which was interesting but a little anticlimatic, and also visited the USO to get an idea of what they were about.
I know you'll enjoy the trip and the experiance no matter where you go, and once you get through graduation you'll be confident you can let go.

Thanks for the reply Joel... Its amazing how it can really affect some kids when they join, we can already tell a difference in her in only 5 weeks of being there in the 15 mins a week we get to talk to her and the handful of letters she has sent. We are very proud of her and her decision. As far as letting go... I'm confident we CAN let go, but actually letting go will be the hard part

I can not help but agree with Lburou. Mi Tierra is amazing mexican food and they are open 24 hours. The market that is next to it is pretty neat to walk around and do some shopping and or just poking around. Also the river walk and Alamo are a must see along with the mission tours. Not sure if you have ever been but there is also a sea world in SA too. Below is the address for the national parks site on the guided tours of the missions.
