    Default the cold has arrived

The coldest morning of the winter, zero degrees and windchill of -15, just finished insulating the last of my hives yesterday, yes I procrastinated. Even after 40 years with bees I am still amazed at how they can survive being out in that kind of cold for days and days and not freeze up solid. That little bit of 2" foam board I put on them does more to make me feel better than them I believe. John

I'll settle for getting through the next 3 weeks, if they can all make it that far I'll be feeling much better. John

If it makes you guys feel any better it was 33 degrees this morning, but should warm up to around 62 degrees today, sunny and no wind!

Temps between 10 and 20 degrees above zero still here in WV. Concerned about bees. Is insulation necessary at this temp range?

And I was worried about the high teens and low 20's we've had for two weeks here. Only gets up to freezing during the day with no sun.
Look who was born in that cold weather! Here is Black Pearl Cowgirl, a smokey black filly:

(I wish my bees were this friendly! Well, they DO try to get me at times)

And a buckskin colt: Meet Fabio, LOL

Ya, my barn was like an refrigerator. We fixed him up for his nappie-6 hours old here. I hope my bees are as comfortable! My friend's little boy was kind enough to donate his teddy bear hat
