    Default pollen flow

I thought that pollen is the bees food. If so why are people feeding when pollen is flowing good?

Bees feed on pollen and honey/syrup. What you are referring to is people feeding syrup even when there is a good pollen flow going, nothing wrong with that if the bees need to get their hive weight up before winter and the flow isn't doing it by itself. Some people feed pollen sub in the fall also just to make sure that the bees have a healthy amount of pollen/sub for late winter brood rearing.
