    Default Strange Deaths

I'm in northern California and I've noticed a LOT of dead bees in front of the hive, some with pollen in the board in front of the entrance. Like they froze to death. Why are they all in front of the hive like this? Why not go inside? I checked yesterday and there appear to be some left but they were very agitated when I took off the cover so I left them alone. I don't know if this hive is going to survive.

Being immediately agitated is a sign of robbing and being at the top of the hive under the cover is a sign of starvation here( in the winter) and sometimes of being overrun by hive beetles
I'd look inside and see what going on if weather permits
    Good Luck, Mike
