Default Powdered sugar and garlic powder mixed together?

Was reading an article on beekeeping from 2004 that a guy uses the mix and sprinkles it on his bees every spring and fall and he claims it has kept the mites away. Anyone hear of this before?

I know a guy around here who does the same and says it works well for him. If the garlic adds anything to the effecacy of the powdered sugar, maybe it sets off grooming because it smells so bad?

The Italian bees will probably really enjoy the garlic..
