    Default Tanzanian Topbar Hive

Hello All, I'm getting ready soon to make a couple of Tanzanian hives. I have a concern though about the depth of the hive from a plan I was looking at. Will the honeycomb support the weight of a full frame of honey during really hot weather (90 degrees plus)? Or might it break off? I live in Liverpool, NY and on occasion we have hot summer days. I use nucs to start my beehives so I'm talking regular size frames. Wondering if I should make main body of topbar hive the size of a medium frame to be safe? I have been a beekeeper for 3 years and still have much to learn. Thanks so much for response!

    Welcome to Beesource!

I would follow Michael Bush' practice for a TTBH and make the hive such that medium frames could fit the hive.

The page has info on both Kenya and Tanzanian TB hives, so you need to scroll down to see the TTBH part.
