From the news link in post #1
Residents said there was a heavy smell of gas in the air and OG&E was called out. Sometime after that the home exploded.

Hmmm, If you smell gas, leave the structure immediately! Better to be a little cold and/or inconvenienced than be inside a house that is involved in a gas fire/explosion!

Several around here over the years, one caused by the gas company and the other (Indianapolis) by a really stupid insurance scam -- take the line off a gas fireplace log and set the microwave to start an hour or so later. Blew that house into kindling, killed the people in the house next door, and damaged at least 10 more beyond repair.

Fuel/air explosions are nothing to play around with.

Residents reported a heavy odor of smoke, sometime after the home exploded.

Better check the neighborhood. A whole block went up in the Bay Area here several years ago because of a faulty PGE gas line. Glad you're ok!

It was actually a Pacific Gas & Electric gas line, not a municipal utility. PG&E is one of California's favorite whipping boys.

I knew there must be some advantage to being all electric.
