    Default TTBH from scrap

    Hey folks,

I'm putting together my first hive, and have some scrap 1x10 from a bookshelf that I would like to use.
The boards are painted on both sides, is it safe for the inside of the hive to be painted?

I don't have enough for the top bars, so those will be new wood regardless.

IDK about the paint but it's nothing a belt sander wouldn't take care of. We used 2x4's for the top bars. Just old scrap.

If you make sure there is no loose paint, and repaint with a good modern paint, it will seal in anything questionable. Non toxic when dry paint does no harm in a hive. The bees cover every surface with propolis anyway.
