Can Pollen Keep a Hive from Starving?

A good surplus of pollen will make fat and healthy bees, but can it keep a hive from starving?
Will the hive eat the pollen before starving? Or can it starve with plenty of pollen stores?

Honey is fuel for bees, their carbohydrate in a way. Pollen is their protien. They need both. Yes, a colony w/ pollen available can still starve if there isn't any honey available.

best solution is to save a couple bottles of honey for them and give that to them for their winter feeding and not sugar which can mess with their intestinal pH.

So I am feeding mine through the winter with sugar on the top bars, but what if you mixed in pollen with that? I want to get off of sugar for the bees, but the hive didn't have enough stores and I don't want to loose them. I like the pollen idea!!
