    Default filling frame (division board) feeders and drowning bees. this is what i did!

    when I was filling them through the ladder hole the bees that were attached to that ladder were drowning

    That looks like the stock frame feeder sold by Mann Lake. He added a hole to stick the funnel in.

    I lined mine with old window screen and then scrunched an extra piece of #8 down inside it. Not nearly as pretty as these, but very functional.

    i added some notches in the wood so its easier to pry the cap off with the hive tool! see pic

    I dont understand the need for this--if you fill the level of the syrup up through the extra hole, aren't the bees in the ladder tube still going to drown from the rising syrup level anyway?

    It will allow them to escape as he is filling the feeder. I smoke the crap out of the feeder hole to get the bees out before I fill.

    If you put some folded chicken wire fencing in the feeder you'll never lose a bee to drowning

    His feeders have a bee ladder in them. What happens is when you fill a feeder the bees that are in it tend to drown because you are pouring the feed directly on top of them in one of the holes. This will allow the bees to make their way out as the level rises.

    Not if you manage the flow accordingly. when you filll down the the ladder you wipe all the bees out
