What is considered a strong hive?

I know this is a rookie question but I need a little clarification. This past year has been another "learning" year for me. I started in the spring with a queenless colony and ordered an Aussie Italian queen. The bees did not accept her and went into a laying worker scenario and died out in about a month. Determined, I ordered another colony and they arrived in August. It was a 4 frame colony with a good fat looking queen. I have been feeding them since they arrived and they now have grown from 4 frames to 8. I have been at WAR with the Giant Japanese hornets here. They recently killed about 200 bees but the colony inside the hive has many many bees. I killed 10 hornets this past Wednesday and the hornet trap had over 60 dead hornets in it. My question is do I have a strong colony?
