    Default winter--- winter --winter

    Ok two questions
    1. Do I need to keep a supply of water available to the bees during the winter?
    2. I built a wind block using plywood and it totally encases the hive, it occured to me yesterday that maybe the hive needs sunlight in the winter also. So, which is better giving it more sun to heat up or blocking the wind during the winter?
    thanks all!

You don't have to provide water in winter, and why not give them both sun and windbreak, I would face the hives south so they get the most winter sun, you can windbreak all of the other three sides. If you don't tarpaper the whole hive at least staple on some tarpaper on the south side so it absorbs sun heat. John
