As cold weather sets in, I have some time to play with decorating hives again. Here is my newest method..vintage tin signs with crackle paint.
Click on the slideshow to see photos of steps to make hive, click on my facebook page for more details. I really need to make some videos, as the brush stroke method is importaint for your crackle success. Maybe Santa will bring me a tripod and small video camera :)

Here's the slideshow:

Remember when decorating your hives, generally the hives will be viewed at a bit of a distance. Your decorations need to be large enough to be noticed.

Hope this gives you some ideas!
Here is the link the the beesource thread about this hive top material. Second page about half way down:

LOL -That is a great idea!
I have this tin for Ducks Unlimited. (The wings work Great for brushing off the bees)

I would really like to find out how to camo dip a hive or get a few box's done somewhere

I really like a western look too. But black and silver colors are easy to find and put together.

Yup, that's the thing, it has to be realistic. When we were in elk camp, I read an advertisement for camo dipping..skulls, guns, etc. I have yet to check it out. Probably too expensive for a hive body..a wrap it probably the way to go.

Amazon.com for vintage tin signs and bullet hole stickers. SIgns are about $9.00 each.

I'm sick, yes sick I tell you of LAURI!

Lauri made this, Lauri made that, Lauri's working on a new space shuttle! Lauri is off big game hunting or scuba diving in the Titanic to recover lost treasures! Lauri has engineered a bee that that has no diseases or pests that bother them.........
I hate LAURI..........but love to see her work!

(Some guy who flunked hammer 101).......

I have had one sign out in the weather for two years. It has faded very slightly. I spray mine now with a light coat of spar urethane to seal it and will be placing them on the north side of the hives-(when possible) to avoid excessive UV rays.

SNL, I'll leave the bee engineering to Monsanto. I believe they are way ahead of my pathetic attempts at genetic manipulations.
Oh oh, now I've done it! I've mentioned Monsanto..Let the verbal war begin.
