Size of top entrance in candy board

What size hole will let the humidity out, work as an entrance and not allow mice in? I am going to drill a hole in the front of my candy boards and want it to be the correct size.

1/4" to 3/8" if you are drilling a hole. Mice can't get in and bees can get out one at a time.

I cut a 3/8" deep slot about an inch or so long, works great. You don't want more than that, you don't want a breeze in the hive.

Thanks Peter! My candy board instructions said to drill a 5/8" hole and I thought that sounded to big if I wanted to keep the mice out.

I drill a 1/2" hole. Never had a mouse crawl up the hive and go in.

I thought the sugar in the candy board might interest them, so I figured it would be better to be safe than sorry.
