Default What to do with queen

I have an extra queen. My wife does not want to get ride of it. I have2 hives both have a queen we bought a nuke and join them with one of the hives so they would be strong through the winter. It is in a mini nuke right now. Would like to know if I could leave in the queen cage and add it to one of the hives so the otherbotherness will feed it throughout the winter and then do a split come spring. One of the hives is relay strong. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am located in central Cal. I am a nube at this and just trying to find out what would be the best way to go would be. I hope this is the right place to post this.

I would keep it in the mini nuc. In a cool dark spot 35-40 degrees temp. And move it to a nuc box in the spring. On warm days move it out side for the day
